Christopher Carroll is an intellectual property partner based in the firm’s Boston and London offices. He has practiced extensively before both the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and European Patent Office (EPO). He concentrates his practice on developing strategies for clients related to patents, trademarks, and copyrights in the US, Europe, and internationally. Christopher’s engineering background allows him to focus on mechanical, electrical, software, communications, and marine technologies.
Christopher has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting US, European, and other foreign patent applications and advising on patent portfolios for clients located all over the world. He has regularly prepared legal opinions regarding patent validity, infringement and freedom-to-operate, and drafted technology-related license agreements. He has been lead counsel for Opposition and Appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office, including arguing at oral proceedings before the Examining Division, Opposition Division, and the Boards of Appeal.
Prior to joining Burns & Levinson, Christopher was a partner at an international law firm. Before becoming an attorney, Christopher supervised research related to wireless communications network security at Verizon and GTE Laboratories. He also served in the US Navy Submarine Force as a nuclear reactor operator. Christopher is an inventor of multiple US patents related to wireless network security.
